Light, Bright & Refreshing Kitchen Makeover

Light, Bright & Refreshing Kitchen Makeover

Chunky Bulkheads, wood-trimmed laminate countertops, brass hardware, a kitchen desk & 4”x4” ceramic backsplash tile are just a few of the many features that were eliminated to help bring this dated 1980’s kitchen into this century.

The dark stained, solid oak cabinetry was replaced with a soft white tone, giving the room a refreshing update. A custom finish was used on the island and dry bar to add interest and depth to the space, again in a soft warm tone.

Floating shelves in the bar area as well as near the sink make the kitchen more airy and open and create the perfect spot for displaying glasses and collectables. The custom hutch with crossed mullions overtop clear mirrors adds texture to the room. This texture is enhanced with the earthy-toned three-dimensional hexagonal backsplash tile which also compliments the island and bar cabinet finish.

The gray veining throughout the otherwise white Cambria countertops adds a dynamic feel in the room while the antique nickel hardware creates a comfortable contrast against the neutral cabinetry. The gray cast iron double bowl sink emphasizes the contrasting tones seen throughout this transitionally designed room.

Additional storage was created with a large pantry cabinet in lieu of a closet complete with roll-out shelves to help keep everything organized. The island was enlarged for a more comfortable seating area, making it ideal for entertaining.

Although the layout remained relatively similar, the change in finishes and update in materials completely converted this kitchen into a subtly beautiful space.
